Number 12 of a long-standing series of December photosets. This year, I’m focusing on beachhuts – those prettily painted wooden sheds that adorn the edges of many of our seaside towns and villages. I imagine they started out as a cheap and cheerful way to afford a holiday, but owners and local councils have spotted the potential to make lots of money from rents and leases, and you now need to be well-heeled to afford one. Most of these are found in my local settlements of Lyme Regis, Beer, Budleigh Salterton and Seaton; but a few are from farther afield in East Anglia. Anyway, enjoy these tiny coastal houses – one per day – and imagine yourself drinking builders’ tea from a flask and enjoying a sticky bun or a custard cream to the sound of children playing on the beach!
