This is an ongoing project that I hope may form the basis of my ARPS submission in a year or two. I’ve always been attracted by the slow fireworks of unfurling ferns every spring – the lime green, russet and silver colours are very enticing. But the colours distract from the elegance of the forms, so I have been experimenting with infrared images and a macro lens to concentrate more on the shape and structure. Armed with a double roofing slate and some electric fenceposts to make a dark backdrop, I spent several mornings scrambling about in my little wooded goyle to see what resulted. This is a selection of the seven or eight species of ferns growing there.
